“This was my last year in marching band, and I’m really glad we had you as a [teacher] - not just this year but past years too. I remember when I was a sophomore how you helped me with my solo and gave me the confidence I needed to perform. Not only have you been an amazing teacher, but you have also been an amazing person to be around (I might be partial because you like cats too).” - E.D.

“We just completed our fourth season together! Through all the change that’s occurred, I’m so lucky to have had you by my side...you’ve always pushed us yet never made [learning] unpleasant. We always confide in you and you are always willing to listen. You know how to have fun with band [practice] and that’s what makes it so much fun for the flutes and I. I’m so glad you were part of my high school career and when I look back on marching band, you’re there. Could not have done it without you!” - C.F.

“I hope your future is as bright as your personality! Thank you for all that you do. I will remember the memories I shared with you forever. You were one of the first people at this school that made me feel at home! I remember talking to you about why I missed our very first [session], and finding out we have really similar taste in music! ROCK ON!” - E.H.

  • Writing & Academics

You are the reason why I love to write poetry. At first, I was freaked out by the idea of having to write something with a meter and a rhyme scheme, but now writing poetry is one of my favorite things to do. I think that is because you introduced it in a way that wasn’t so terrifying and encouraged me to keep practicing. (Also, I now have a best friend who loves my poetry and can play guitar and sing. They are currently attempting to turn one of my poems into a song.) Also, I just wanted to say you are by far one of the best teachers I’ve had this year.” - S.F.

“When my mom told me I’d be [learning] academic skills I wasn’t too happy about it. However, during our short time together it has quickly become one of my academic highlights. Whether we are laughing or telling stories from our lives you always seem to bring joy to my day. I appreciate all the emails you’ve helped me write and all the days you’ve helped me organize.” - V.Y.

“It’s so much fun to be with you during learning skills. Thank you for letting me be me while also encouraging that I do my work. :)” - T.D.

“I can’t explain how much you helped me. You were someone that would listen to me when no one else would. You made me realize that just because I struggle more than others in school that doesn’t make me a bad student... I hope one day our paths will cross again.” - L.H.

“I would like to keep this short because I myself do not like reading so I love small quick letters. Thank you for what you have done for me.” -J.A.

“Thank you. In the short time I have known you, you somehow managed to make a huge impact on my life. Thank you for being so understanding and patient with me. It was an incredible experience to get the opportunity to learn from you. I cannot thank you enough for being there for me. You helped me adapt to a vastly different way of learning and not only understood my struggles but also helped me work on them. Thank you again for being who you are.” - A.C.

“Thank you for your time, energy and feedback, an all the great conversations we had. I deeply appreciate your attitude and your ability to moderate a discussion without actually policing what is being said. I’ve never been so interested in in-class discussions in my life. I’m grateful for all you have taught me and I admire you as a person in many ways. You had the most loose, yet firm grip on the classroom of any teacher I’ve ever seen and your energy was always so refreshing.” - T.S.

“You made it a warm environment. You cared, you understood my struggles, and helped me when I was not doing my best. We talked about books and things we like to do. You love your students even though most of them could have been better in class. You have a big heart, a big heart that will help many people. Your class was tricky but it was also fun and flexible. My year wouldn’t have been as easy without you.” - S.P.
